ROCK CLIMBER’S DIET

Are you aware just how much of a workout rock climbing is? Like any sport, if you’re planning on doing it on a regular basis, or even a casual one, you’ll need a diet that can keep you on your feet.

It’s not as simple as just eating right either, you have to stay hydrated, and time your meals according to your climbs. There are certain things you need to eat before, during, and after your a. It may sound strict, but it’s essential if you want to get the most out of the activity.

Not sure where to begin with your climbing diet? Here are just a few pointers to get you on the right track.

Plenty of Proteins

Climbing takes a toll of your muscle fibres. The fastest way of repairing them will be by taking proteins. Good source of protein includes fish, poultry, and eggs.

As for vegans, protein supplements will do just fine.

Don’t ignore Carbs

Carbs are known to give the immediate boost of energy, so never brush them aside. However, be sure not to overload too as water weight will bog you down during the climb.

Flexi on Fats

Fats as we know, are divided to good and bad. So be sure to include “good” fats in your diet. This includes the likes of avocado, coconut oil etc. But have a limit as fat slows down carb breakdown.

Stay Hydrated
While you’re climbing, you will inevitably lose water either through sweating or just physical strain in general. You’ll need to have a way to re-hydrate while you climb if you want to avoid muscle cramps and other issues. You can replenish your electrolytes with a bottle of water or sports drink.
Timing your mealsEating at the right time is essential so that you can have the energy when required. Eat too early and you’ll end up being fatigued or eat too late and you’d feel sluggish.

A good idea would be to eat small portions throughout the day. This keeps your metabolism at an optimum level.
